Navigation of Site

This site uses links to navigate to more detailed information. It is important to follow links to the end to see complete information about an individual. For example, click Surnames above, click on Call, and select George Washington Ilsey Call. Notice footnote 1 refers to Citation Source S19. Click S19 to go to the Sources page and there you see three icons that look like cameras. Click on the middle icon to see a page from the Call Family Bible showing the correct spelling of Ilsey in the hand writing of his mother Sarah. To confirm it is her handwriting follow the links for her to find her autograph.

Other links are to click on Names in the descendancy chart to take you to the information on that person. On the Places pages clicking on a blue underlined entry will take you to a person associated with that place.

Except for this home page, the GWI Call family in birth order is along the left side.

You are encouraged to contact me if you find errors or have additional information you are willing to share. To send me email click on my name near the bottom of this page.

Selecting the Home button above will take you out of Call Family History and Genealogy and to my web site home page.

Project Goal and Status

Several years ago I started doing some Call Family Genealogy. I soon found there were many family members who had been doing this for a long time. Many of them had similar information in hand copied form that had been handed around and copied from each other. A few others had done extensive research looking for more information. I joined in and spent a couple years searching for more and finally realized it was tough finding anything new but there was more already known than I first thought. I also noticed nobody had made an effort to publish the extensive amount that was known by various searchers and collectors. Everybody kept their papers and pictures in boxes, file cabinets, notebooks, drawers, photo albums etc. In addition there was not one complete collection. The basic information was broadly shared but the more detailed knowledge was somewhat spread around. There was not an organized central repository and therefore it was not possible to publish something that was complete and comprehensive. At that point I decided to quit looking for more, gather as much as I could, and publish it. The idea was to take a snapshot of what was known and publish.

Due to many interruptions and the immensity of the project, it has taken far longer than I originally thought. And the work is far from finished. This first step is but a small, but very important, part of the overall project. As I have time to finish other parts I will publish them. Most of the information is in my computers now but needs some clean-up before publishing on this web site.

Technology has changed in major ways since I started this work. Publishing on the internet was not possible when I started and now it is routine in genealogy circles. At this point I do NOT plan to publish information about living people on this web site, even though I have large amounts of it. Publishing that information will come later in another form.

This initial web site production includes about 50 people. There are at least 1,000 non-living people in my database and about 5,000 living and non-living. I refer only to descendants of Alexander Call and not to any of the ancestors and their descendants in the various maternal lines. I have much of that also but it will remain a future project. This first phase had to be cut down to something with a reasonable goal. I will be adding more material as it is ready.

I don't pretend this work is 100% accurate or complete. However, a large part of it is documented and readers can check it out with the references and material provided. Of course, genealogy is never complete.

Credits

Many family members and others have helped me and contributed in many ways. I won't attempt to list them all for fear of inadvertently missing someone and to avoid listing names of living people on this open web site. Those who helped know who they are. I thank you very much. Without your cooperation this would not have been possible.
